Egypt turns to China, Italy to set up third domestic fertilizer complex

China’s Wuhan Engineering Co. and Italy’s Ballestra will help Egypt set up a new domestic fertilizer Complex, the third of the North African country.

Egyptian President Abdelfattah al-Sisi discussed on Wednesday with officials from both foreign companies, “Ahram Online” reports citing the Presidential office. The future Complex will complement the existing production of phosphate and composite fertilizers in the area.

A Nitrogenous Fertilizer Complex was inaugurated in March 2023, while a Phosphatic and Compound Fertilizers Complex was inaugurated in August 2019.

The president directed the Government to continue its efforts to localize fertilizer production, as it is one of the most important inputs for agricultural production, which affects food security, the office said.

He emphasized that these efforts should focus on the transfer of knowledge, technology, and expertise, building on the advanced productive and operational capacities of major foreign companies worldwide.
