On June 24, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he had replaced the commander of the joint forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Yurii Sodol , with Brigadier General Andrii Hnatov.
Lieutenant Colonel Bohdan Krotevych, one of the commanders of the Azov Brigade , said on June 23 that he had filed an official complaint with the State Bureau of Investigation demanding an investigation into one of the generals.
“I wrote to the SBI demanding that they open an investigation into a military general who, in my opinion, killed more Ukrainian soldiers than any Russian general,” he wrote .
He did not specify the name of the general.
According to undisclosed sources in Ukrainska Pravda
, the general in question was Sodol. In his evening speech, Zelensky did not mention the reasons for Sodol’s dismissal.
Sodol has been the commander of the joint forces since February 11, 2024. He also headed the operational command “Donetsk” in 2023.
Hnatov, who replaced Sodol, had previously served as deputy commander of the Southern Operational Command since 2022.
After the announcement, Krotevych wrote: “Hnatov is an excellent officer. I hope the news at the front will improve.”
