Rabat – Morocco and the United Arab Emirates have cemented their commitment to combating the mounting challenges posed by the digital age by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in cybersecurity.
The two countries signed the agreement on Thursday at the GITEX Global 2023 event in Dubai, emphasizing the significance of global cybersecurity partnerships.
The MoU brings together the Directorate General of Information Systems Security Management of the National Defense Department of the Kingdom of Morocco and the UAE Cybersecurity Council, pledging a united front against cyber threats.
Souhail Bouslichen, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Abu Dhabi, signed the MoU on behalf of Morocco.
The primary objective of the agreement is to establish a comprehensive framework for collaboration, ensuring the success of digital transformation initiatives and promoting inclusive economic and social growth. This strategic partnership aims to fortify both nations’ capabilities in tackling the escalating cyber risks.
In addition, the signing of the memorandum creates a joint committee tasked with planning and overseeing the execution of cooperative activities. It also lays down the timeline for these initiatives, with a commitment to annual meetings, alternating between Morocco and the UAE. .
Recently, Morocco has been solidifying its security measures. It has signed several agreements with international partners to strengthen its security.
Morocco also participated in a cybersecurity attack simulation hosted by the Israel National Cyber Directorate at the Israeli pavilion in Expo 2020 Dubai, in November 2021.
